Free Runner is an athletics association that was founded in 2003 by the passion for the sport and solidarity, as well as the devotion of some of its members to Padre Pio, to whom is dedicated the St. Padre Pio Marathon, organized every year in September and combyining sport and solidarity.
During the "Lucernario", traditional prayer vigil at the St. Padre Pio shrine in San Giovanni Rotondo, the father Superior of the Capuchin Sancutary blesses the torch brought by the marathoners of Free Runner. The marathon ends in Eboli, after 230 km of relay race through three regions, four provinces and eighteeen municipalities. Many believers, devotee, citizens and visitors wait for the the arrival of the torch-bearers in Eboli, in front of the St. Padre Pio statue, close to the Church of St. Bartholomew in the center of the City. The marathon, as always, is combined with a fundraiser event for charity.
