Eboli Archeological Group was founded in 2011 as a volunteering association to promote, value and safeguard Cultural and Landscape Goods (archeological, architectural, artistic, historical, monumental ones, as well as parks, collections, and museums) according to the relative authorities. It is affiliated to Italy Archeological Groups, and its original aim was to continue what was started in 1973 when some young people from Eboli decided to create G.A.E.
Several initiatives have been put in practice, such as retrieving the ‘Stele Eburina’, rebuilding roofs of Santa Maria in Intra and Madonna del Loreto churches. Many archeological campaigns have also identified new undiscovered places.
Nowadays, G.A.E. is made of a group of enthusiastic people, together with professional and highly specialised figures in the field of archeology and historical art.
Eboli Archeological Group strictly cooperates with the Archeological Authority, the University, local institutions and other associations. It promotes the research aimed to safeguard heritage, with specific focus on local territory within Sele Plain (Piana del Sele) and much more.
Other important activities organized by the group are guided tours, as Cerveteri (tour of the Banditaccia Acropolis and the relative Archeological Museum); Santa Maria Capua Vetere (Roman Amphitheatre, Gladiators Museum, Antica Capua Archeological Museum, Mitreo) followed by the tour of the Benedettina Cathedral of Sant’Angelo in Formis; visit of the Elea-Velia Archeological Park and Roccagloriosa; Baia (Archeological Park of Baia, submerged Baia, Aragonese Castle and Campi Flegrei Archeological Museum); Archeological area of Ercolano and Oplontis; San Leucio Real Sito and the Medieval village of Casertavecchia.
Finally, the group also work alongside education organising laboraties of archeology for children and young people.
